K11 Art Foundation is proud to launch Prologue – a series of programmes that serves to create a space, a void and a lab for the experimental ideas and expressions to collide and happen. The first programme of this newly launched series is birth of an idea by a local music artist Olivier Cong. Olivier, together with Taiko drummer Alex Cheung and scent artists Scentory and wenxiangji, created a music and scented experience at K11 MUSEA.

The piece was livestreamed on our social media platforms.

For many, the Garage may be a backroom for junk, but for some, it is an incubator for ideas that might one day change the world.

In this piece, the Garage signifies the womb, a safe place to experiment and create our own expression. Two characters — the mind and the vessel — are created to put the observers in a hypnotic state of mind through minimalistic yet repetitive percussive notes, encouraging them to introspect throughout the journey.

The mind is represented by the traditional instrument Taiko and the vessel the modular synthesiser, where all ideas are generated in pure physical forms and processed through the vessel before reaching the observers. This is a study that examines the nature of traditional instruments and how they fuse with modern values.
