FUTURA

Collaborated Project:

City As Studio | Exhibition

FUTURA (born Leonard McGurr, 1955, New York, New York, U.S.) was present at the creation of two of the most significant cultural innovations of the past 50 years. The first was the creation of Wild Style graffiti and its extension into music, dance and street style on the streets and subways of New York City from the mid-1970s through the mid-1980s. The other was the convergence of graffiti, skate culture, art products and fashion that emerged in Tokyo in the mid to late 1990s. FUTURA was central to both of these developments which have shaped our global visual culture and continue to resonate today.
